Goodbye

I never met you but I loved you. Without ever feeling you move, seeing your face or hearing your voice.
I loved you because you were family.
You were going to be a lifetime friend and cousin to my own daughter. The two girls in the family, getting up to mischief together. Dancing, singing, running around.
You were going to be my niece. A precious lifetime of memories ahead, watching you grow and explore and learn.
You were going to be the daughter that lit up my brother’s eyes as he spoke of you. You did that. Just the thought of you.
You were going to be protected and teased and played with and loved by two of the most caring big brothers you could ask for.
You were going to be loved without condition by the beautiful lady who was to call herself your mum. Who will forever call herself your mum. The sweetest and kindest mum who will love you forever.
You were going to be.
But now you are gone. A perfectly formed angel. Flown away far from us.
You were going to be loved. So loved.
And loved you shall be. Always and forever.
Goodbye our love. Our angel. Forever in our hearts.

Out of this tragedy has grown a chance to help by allowing future parents who give birth to sleeping angels all the time they need with their baby.
Emerikus Land Foundation – The Cuddle Cot Charity
NHS Guidance (UK) NHS 2011 Palliative Guidance states that cooling of the deceased should begin within 2-4hrs of death. Historically, this meant a transfer to the mortuary. I cannot imagine the pain of losing a baby, let alone having to say goodbye within hours. Or spending time grieving in a cold room or mortuary.
The Emerikus Land Foundation was set up in honour of our baby girl Emerikus Land who we lost due to Placental Abruption on the 24th of March 2013. We set up this foundation to raise awareness and funds for the purchase of Cold Cuddle Cots.

Flexmort’s Cuddle Cot is small, light and quiet and is designed for use with deceased babies in any moses basket or cot. It can easily be carried in one hand and so can easily be used at home for parents as well as for use within the hospital maternity department. It also provides an additional cooling product for Funeral Directors to enhance their services and was developed with input from SANDS (Stillbirth & Neonatal Death Charity), bereaved parents and maternity departments.
